| Over running first baseAnother judgement call. Most players run straight thru or peel off to foul territory. But what do you do when the runner turns towards second and the first baseman lays the tag on him? This is all about intent, very similar to the check swing rules. Do you think he was trying to advance? If he was, he's out. If he wasn't, he's safe. You will get an argument from the coach no matter how you call it. There is no
rule that states that just because he stepped towards second he is out. The only thing to consider was the runners intent.
