openroadracing.com - Open Road Racing is a high-speed automotive rally event held on closed highways from 50 to 84 miles in length, in two legs, with total distances ranging from 97 to 131 miles. Cars compete in solo runs against the clock in speed classes ranging from 85 MPH to 170 MPH, with the objective being to average your target speed EXACTLY. You can race by yourself, or share the fun with a co-driver or navigator to help keep the time and watch the course notes. These events are sanctioned by the Nevada Department of Transportation and by the counties in which the events are held. Local law enforcement is present to maintain the integrity of the closed course and keep the racers safe. MKM also provides Safety and Rescue Teams stationed throughout the course. The speed class you are allowed to enter is based on your experience level and the safety equipment on your car. Generally, the more safety equipment you car is equipped with, the faster you will be allowed to go. Each speed class is restricted by a "Technical Speed", which the cars in that class are not allowed to exceed for any reason. For example, if you are racing in the 120 MPH class, your Technical Speed is 140 MPH. All classes will have a Technical Speed of at least 13 MPH above their target speed, to allow them to achieve their average speed easily.
